Jaska has teamed up with his longtime sponsor Pearl Drums to launch an open fan competition to design his new snare drum, which will become a part of his live drum set.
The competition is now available on Jaska's Facebook fan page. The best design ideas will receive swag like old drum skins, sticks and cob gear signed by Jaska. Anyone can participate even with a simple design idea.
Jaska comments: "I am now challenging you to create my snare drum. Only criteria or more of a recommendation I have for it is that it should be timeless as I am personally gonna pick the best design for my live set. If you have questions you can post them on my wall and I will try to give guidance to you. Also, all the best serious try-outs will be judged by fans later and will be compensated! Do not hesitate to participate. Even the most simple idea could be the best one!"

First 'Halo of Blood' impressions

The first trailer for the upcoming "Halo Of Blood" album has been released. The video resulted from the listening session of the new album, which took place at the Nuclear Blast headquarters in Germany on March 16th, and shows the first impressions of the international press.
The new album “Halo Of Blood” will be released June 07, 2013 via Nuclear Blast.
CHILDREN OF BODOM recorded “Halo Of Blood” at Finland's Danger Johnny Studios (in a top secret, undisclosed location in Helsinki) with recording engineer Mikko Karmila, who worked on the Hatebreeder (1999), Follow the Reaper (2001), and Hate Crew Deathroll (2003) albums.
The album was produced by the band and Mikko Karmila. Keyboards were recorded by Janne Wirman and vocal production was done by Peter Tägtgren. “Halo Of Blood” was mixed at Finland’s famed Finnvox Studios.

CHILDREN OF BODOM have set Halo of Blood as the title of their eagerly anticipated eighth studio album, set for a June 06 European release, and a June 11 North American release via Nuclear Blast Records. Today, CHILDREN OF BODOM unveils Halo of Blood's cover art, created by artist Sami Saramäki, known for his work on the classic COB records Follow the Reaper, Are You Dead Yet? and Hate Crew Deathroll.
The band's bass player Henkka Blacksmith comments, "We wanted to have a winter scene. Somehow it fits well with the atmosphere of the music and the composing session. It could be Lake Bodom actually, frozen, with people trapped under the ice. Very Finnish looking scene.
We were really happy how Sami created the whole imagery!"

CHILDREN OF BODOM, who are currently busy in their own studio in Helsinki, recording ten new tracks for the upcoming 8th album release, now report from the recording desk to give an update on the sessions.
Bassist Henkka Seppälä comments:
"Last night I finished my parts in making the record. We listened to all the songs and fixed what had to be fixed. So the bass tracks are in. So are the basic tracks for guitars, from both Roope and Alexi. And of course drums were recorded first. So next in line is guitar melodies and solos, and then laying down the keyboards. Then it's time for vocals. We are ahead of schedule and very happy to work here in Helsinki for the first time ever. I'll update you again when we are further in recording."
Regarding the fact that the record is being recorded on the band's own premises, frontman Alexi Laiho states: "It's a nice change to the regular method where we lock ourselves up at a studio in the middle of the woods, usually also during the darkest time of the year. However, we did track drums at the tried-and-tested Petrax studio in Hollola this time as well, so we got our fix of that modus operandi too. But for the guitar and bass, we don't require a big facility in the countryside, so we decided to stay closer to home for this part of the session."
Laiho is currently in the final stages of writing the lyrics. Beginning of February, renowned Swedish producer and musician Peter Tägtgren (PAIN, HYPOCRISY) will join the band for the vocal recordings.
Commented Alexi:
"It will be great to have Peter come over for a good stretch this time so we can really concentrate on the vocals. At the moment, I'm done with the lyrics for two tracks: 'All Twisted' and 'Slowdance On Nails'. So far all the other tunes go by working titles such as 'Moto GP', 'FC Pettymys', 'Kananmuisti-ilmiö' and 'Trondheim'."
Moreover, COB-guitarist Roope Latvala has announced stronger participation in the song arrangement than before: "In my opinion many guitar parts could be made more interesting and balanced with just minor tweaks."
Alexi confirms: "Roope did voice his opinions more than usual this time around. And maybe the others, too. As far as the actual question goes, the usual rule applies: all good ideas are taken into consideration."
Dyed-in-the-wool COB fans will be happy to hear that the band will keep up their tradition of hilarious cover versions. As to this, Alexi reveals: "We will be doing our versions of songs by BANANARAMA and ROXETTE, and a track chosen for us by the readers of the Japanese magazine Burrn."
The yet-untitled album is scheduled for a summer 2013 release via Nuclear Blast.

COB has unfortunately had to cancel their appearance at next year's Tuska Open Air Festival due to an overlapping booking with a big US tour.
Henkka comments: "We've been waiting to play Tuska for some years now. It is our home festival after all.
Unfortunately this year we have to sacrifice a couple of festivals in europe in order to be able to be part of a big tour in USA. These are not easy nor nice decisions. We only can hope we can do Tuska in the near future again.
Please stay tuned for our schedules for summer 2013. Fortunately we are able to play shows in Europe as well. Looking forward!"
Also, the Rock Harz festival appearance has also been cancelled for the same reason.

Roadkill photo book OUT NOW!

Our photo book, Roadkill, is finally out. Photography for the book started in 2007. It includes exclusive material of life on the road, shows, promo shoots, recording sessions, album cover production and the world wide hate crew. It also includes comments and diary entries by the band and the photographer.
The book is about perspective. There are no on stage hero shots from the photo pit. Instead it presents a very intimate viewpoint of the band and the hate crew. A raw photographic documentary of how the life of Children Of Bodom really looks like.
It's a heavy 230 mm x 237 mm hard cover book with 256 pages. The first 666 copies are numbered and personally signed by the band. The book is only available at www.hatecrew.com.

“This is not an easy letter for us to write. Alexi is suffering from a serious infection. He is still in hospital in Oslo under supervision of the doctors and we don’t know yet when they will release him.
We have no choice other than canceling Ruisrock in Turku on Saturday as well. This is a very bitter pill for us to swallow. We had decided to do only two festivals in our homeland this summer to make it real special, and now this.
We hope that we will be able to make up for this very soon. To all our fans who had been looking forward to rock with us at Ruisrock this weekend, take our apologies and enjoy the festival. In our spirits, we will be there, too.”

Oslo and Malmö shows cancelled

“It is with great regret that we are forced to cancel tonight’s show in Oslo as well as tomorrow night’s show in Malmö.
Alexi was rushed to the Oslo hospital earlier this evening with extreme stomach pain. The doctors in the emergency unit checked him and while we are still waiting for a diagnosis, they made clear that he will not be able to perform within the next 48 hours.
We apologize to all our fans who have bought tickets to these shows - we will try to reschedule both Oslo and Malmö at the earliest possibility. Keep your fingers crossed with us that Alexi will get well again soon!”

Shovel Knockout music video

Changes to the show in Cyprus

The band's show on June 2 in Cyprus has been moved to the Pavillion Hall in Nicosia. The RockinSun Festival, where the band's first show ever in Cyprus was supposed to take place originally, has been postponed to another time.
This means that the fans in Cyprus will be treated with a full headlining show indoors instead! We hope to see you all in the Pavillion Hall in Nicosia, Cyprus on June 2nd.

Holiday at Lake Bodom (15 Years of Wasted Youth)

On May 22, world famous Finnish metal superstars CHILDREN OF BODOM will release Holiday at Lake Bodom (15 Years of Wasted Youth), a very special CD+DVD career retrospective in celebration of the band's 15th Anniversary. The release will spotlight specially selected songs from every one of the band's critically acclaimed albums (1997's Something Wild, 1999's Hatebreeder, 2000's Follow the Reaper, 2003's Hate Crew Deathroll, 2005's Are You Dead Yet?, 2008's Blooddrunk and 2011's Relentless Reckless Forever) plus newly recorded (and undeniably fun) cover songs and detailed liner notes penned by the members of COB themselves. The DVD portion of the package will include "candid touring and backstage footage from around the world" plus the never before seen music video for Relentless Reckless Forever's "Shovel Knockout".
"15 Years of Wasted Youth is the sound of Children Of Bodom working hard, partying hard, being relentless and stubborn," says the band's superstar guitarist / vocalist Alexi Laiho. "We went through many brick walls to get forward and after seven studio albums, two live albums, non stop touring, bleeding and breaking a lot of bones, I thought we were justified to put out this album. Children Of Bodom launches Mobile Backstage

Finnish heavy metal band Children Of Bodom is celebrating the 15th Anniversary U.S. Tour by launching their very own interactive fan club Mobile Backstage on smartphones, Facebook and the Web to connect with their most loyal fans, the Children Of Bodom Hate Crew.
“Mobile Backstage was an obvious choice for us. It’s a combination of mobile and Facebook apps and a web interface that create a digital fan club and allow us to reach all our fans no matter where they are. We’re very excited about this opportunity to share some exclusive behind-the-scenes material and stay in touch with the Hate Crew during our 15th Anniversary U.S. tour,” said Children Of Bodom in a statement.
